Default Frost Gate Bonus - how?

I've read the wiki for the Frost Gate mission. I'm a lvl14 mesmer/ranger (for the pet for HoM purposes, I know it's a weird combo), taking along healer/warrior/ranger henchmen. Here's what I do and where it goes wrong:

- take out the first two ballistae (no problem)
- clear through the cave, the pack outside the west exit and the 2 on the bridge where the bombs are being dropped. Also easy. The first couple of times I went on and dealt with ballistae 3 and 4 before trying the bonus, and had no problem with them.
- head off down the path towards the bonus ballistae (note: I have not actually acquired the bonus yet) to clear the way, planning to run back and get Rornak once it's safe.

This is where it all goes wrong. I am being as careful as I can, but I just can't seem to pull a single mob without them all coming rushing up. I've tried several times now. I just can't clear this bit. Any advice? Am I missing something obvious?

If you look at the map on the wiki (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Frost_Gate) it's the yellow 2 where I'm struggling.

This is my first char, so am still learning the game, but I just can't figure out how to do this bit. Feels like banging my head against a brick wall at the moment.

Thanks in advance for any help

It IS a tricky one, especially as you are at a low level and only using hench. but you can do it.

They wont pull all the way up to top of the hill so I suggest you fllag your hench just below the top and fight them at the point where they stop being pulled and start to run back. It may take a few tries to establish where that is but it will take the pressure off your hench. Hench warrior ai is dreadful tho - keep an eye on him.

Until you are a higher level and have heroes its a good idea to keep doing the way you are and not take the quest until after clearing this group - that dwarf is annoyingly suicidal.

I hate Prophecies ... I'm so sorry.

Well, The real problem with this mission's bonus is that there should be a two groups near the base of the trail and the third is right next to the person at the top. The bottom two groups both have one healer in each group and when combined you have to deal with two healers. I would highly recommend you put your pet on heel command and set your party quite a way back and try pulling one of the monsters. If this triggers both groups, run and recuperate and try hitting another one of the monsters in that group to see if only one group comes charging back. Watch out though because if the other groups healer "heals" what group your fighting it will still be complicated so try to run them back to your henchmen as far as possible. Seeing that your Mesmer, I would highly suggest you to Backfire the healer and it will most likely try to remove hex your Backfire and then you hit it with Power Spike so that it's forced to heal itself to death as well as taking damage (That is if you aren't doing this already). For this mission specifically, I would highly recommend you to leave your pet out of this one mission and pick it back up again, because this mission is awful if you over-agro anything. Good luck.

yes it can be a little trying for some guys,

when you are going to clear the balista for the Dwarf stay about half way up the hill flag your hench (an Ele would help you btw instaed of the Ranger hench)

equip a longbow stats are unimportant its just for to lure the guys towards your group so once you have them flagged back some use the bow to lure a small groupat a time towards you. do this until the area is clear and the go get Rornak

Fire the ballista to break the door so that it is open to allow you to enter it for the bonus.

When you go across the bridge and take out the groups and 2 balistas the gate opens you can go through and then walk back to the gate where Ice Golems are and clear it all the way to the chest..open it.. then deliver the plans back to Rornak bonus done so continue on and clear area then use the Lever to open the gates( main gate hang back a little as a group will charge you)
You have another 3 gates to open so clear the area first since you are somewhat low level then do 1 gate at a time using the lever you have dispose of that group then move onto next gate to open.

once done progess through the gate on left of screen dispose of a few guys job done.

Hope this helps you somewhat.

If I were you, I would skip the bonus and go back when you have better armour/health.

Thanks for the tips. Managed one attempt where I only pulled half and took them down, but I died meaning dp meaning fail on the next lot . . . tried again, died on the first pull. If I could get one healer at a time I'd be sorted, maybe just need to try again. Backfire+Power Spike are beautiful for this, but not enough when one healer keeps the other topped up. Gonna take a break for a few hours then try again, but yeah I may have to leave it . . . I don't like giving up on stuff though

Don't go for any proph bonus unless you are lvl 20. You will save your self a lot of heart ache. I would suggest you go to Factions or Nightfall once you get to Lion's Arch (if you have the campaigns)

Wait a minute, Is it the huge Muursaat mob you are talking about?

If so, let them pass.

Prophecies with only Henchman nowadays is a pain in the ass.

Unless u really want to complete this mission now (at lvl14) and only Henchman, good luck!

Or, skip this mission till u are higher lvl, and/or have better skills and/or heroes.
Or, ask for a lvl20 player with (good) heroes to help u.

As for killing a healer foe first, call the target, so that your entire party attacks the one same target.

If u could use help, send me a PM ingame (if no one else already helped u ingame)

@Miteshu, i doubt there r Mursaat in the Northern Shiverpeaks.

hmm..uhm

Yeah I have them. Have managed all the previous bonuses ok though I believe I get to Lion's Arch after this mission? Might skip to Nightfall then, although I am enjoying Prophecies - probably because it's my first time through though so everything is new and shiny

Edit to add:

@Miteshu: not sure what mob you mean, but sounds like a patrol, which isn't what I'm dealing with.

@dagrdagaz: I might take you up on that Gonna see if I can do it now, IGN is Idris Feathers

Actually, I did managed to pull them by once. It is not easy though. Apparently, the mobs are stationed a bit differently each time you do a mission. It so happened that one time when I was in it that the mobs were a little farther apart. This allowed me to pull them separately.

Make sure you have a full party. Use your Fire Imp if you have that bonus stone.

Miteshu is probably talking about the Ice Caves mission in the Southern Shiverpeaks, so that advice is safe to ignore.

Thanks for all the advice. Dagrdagaz kindly came and helped me through it.

I have to say, the GW community deserves some sort of prize for niceness
